How did the system of currency that still persists to this day begin? What were those ancient coins made from and what secrets can we learn from the past that will help us to save our own?
The first coins with some design on them seem to have been issued by King Gyges of Lydia in what we now call Western Turkey, towards the end of the 8th century BC.
Coins have also been of tremendous value to archaeologists for dating purposes. When the Dead Sea Caves were found there was intense controversy over the date of the scrolls found there
Coins have also helped us to know what people and places look like.
It is really neat to see how far the use of money has come, and how it was first made.
