This month’s newsletter reports on the latest developments of HopeChannel radio in the South Pacific.
Over the past 12 months, changes to Australian media legislation have opened the door for HopeChannel and Conferences to purchase more than 40 new HopeChannel radio licenses around the country. This brings to a total of 321 licenses owned by individuals, churches, Conferences or the Australian Union Conference covering around 20% of Australia population.
Western Australia
Broadcast has recently commenced in Western Australia. From Rockingham to Busselton, Adventist radio can be heard on 88.0 FM reaching a population of close to 300,000 people. The Western Australian Conference is delighted with these recent developments.
North NSW
Early this year, in collaboration with NNSW Conference, 27 licenses were purchased in the Hunter region and Central Coast. HopeChannel now talks daily with over a million people in this area. Just pause and visualise this reality. Every day, HopeChannel radio will be available in homes, cars, workplaces or buses. Every hour of the day, adults, teenagers and children will be able to learn about the Good News of Jesus and His soon return.
Sydney NSW
Sydney is the largest city in Australia with a population of 4.8 million people. The Greater Sydney Conference recently purchased three licenses in the Illawarra-Wollongong area that will be activated shortly. These new licenses alone cover a population of approximately 300,000 people. The additional radio locations will help us reach more of Sydney’s population.
Victoria
The Australian Union Conference, Victorian Conference and individuals have purchased 101 licenses in Victoria. These licenses are capable of reaching over 900,000 people. We are currently awaiting activation of some regional license; that will enable greater access to Christian radio for those living in country Victoria.
South Australia
31 licenses covering a population of over 1.3 million people are having an impact on South Australia. Once all licenses are activated, HopeChannel will extend its broadcast reach to 1.25 million people everyday.
Tasmania
The Australian Union Conference in partnership with the Tasmanian Conference and individuals have purchased 46 licenses covering a population of around 200,000 people. Recent negotiations have also enabled the purchase of a license in Hobart, the state’s capital.
Northern Australia
An application was submitted this month to authorities for a broadcast license in Townsville, a city of 170,000 people. Please pray that we might be successful in our application and auction process.
