Our story today comes from Luke chapter 1. It is all about what happened when an angel came to see Zechariah in the temple one day.
The Old Testament records prophecies of Jesus’ birth and life on earth. The New Testament records their fulfillment. For example, Micah 5:2 foretells Jesus’ birthplace, and Matthew 2:1 records the fulfillment. Isaiah 52:13-53:12 predicts His life as the suffering servant of God and humanity, and the four Gospels faithfully record the fulfillment. This fulfillment brings the assurance that God keeps His word.
We are going to be looking in our Bibles at Nehemiah chapters 1-4 today. It is about when Nehemiah returned to Israel to help them to rebuild the walls of their destroyed city.
This story comes from Jeremiah 18. God told Jeremiah to go to visit the potter’s house. As the potter was shaping and moulding some clay vessels, Jeremiah learnt some very valuable lessons.
While Hezekiah is sick, God sends him a message by His prophet Isaiah, telling him he will soon die. Hezekiah prays, reminding God that he has been faithful. Then he weeps bitterly. God gives Isaiah another message for Hezekiah—that He had heard his prayer, had seen him weep, and would add fifteen years to his life. God promises to turn the shadow on the sundial of Ahaz ten degrees backward as a sign. God keeps His promise. Hezekiah recovers. The story comes from Isaiah 38.
The story comes from Isaiah chapter 6. It is because of God’s grace that we have been forgiven.
Paul writes a letter to Timothy to encourage him as he continues to faithfully serve by caring for the church at Ephesus. It is recorded in the Bible book 2 Timothy.
The story is about a runaway slave and what happened when he learnt about Jesus. It comes from the book of Philemon.
Paul is on a mission and concerned about the people in Corinth. This story comes from 2 Corinthians chapter 2.
The story of when Paul met Priscilla and Aquilla. They were very kind to him, invited him to stay with them and taught them all about making tents. It comes from Acts chapter 18.
